Ovulation Predictor Kits (Opks) Do Opks Help

Ovulation Predictor Kits – or OPKs – are used in the aid of detecting ovulation in order to conceive a baby. I have used OPKs many times in the past, and stand by them.

Every month a woman releases a hormone called LH and OPK’s are designed to detect the LH surge from a woman’s urine. Open taking the OPKs (if you’ve never taken any before) around cycle day 10; the first day of your menstrual period, being cycle day 1. The LH surge causes a pink second line on this particular type of test. It’s similar in appearance to a pregnancy test, but it’s not strange to have a faint pink second line most of the time on an OPK as LH is almost always present in a woman’s body. A positive OPK has a second line that is AS DARK or DARKER than the control line. A negative test is when the second line isn’t as murky or darker than the control line. You know your going to ovulate within 24 to 36 hours once you get a obvious OPK. Remember, the line must be AS DARK or DARKER than the control line to be positive, because of the LH surge; this is considered a positive test. Once you detect a surge on the OPK don’t stop taking the tests. You may get more than one day of a surge so keep taking them until the test is negative. Remember, the test line just needs to be lighter than the control line for it to be negative. The first negative test, is considered ovulation day.

(With most OPKs, it’s also important to know, that the OPK CAN be sure if at least 50% of the line is AS DARK or DARKER than the control line. It doesn’t have to be the ENTIRE line, because sometimes only half the line has the darkness, and that’s okay.)

So, now you’ve gotten your positive OPK. You should start baby-dancing (sex) asap. Retain taking the tests and keep baby-dancing. When you get the negative, that being O day, I would then baby dance the next 2 or 3 days. It’s more likely to conceive while baby-dancing BEFORE the ovary actually spits the egg out, but it can happen after. And now you wait!

The best/cheapest OPK I’ve old-fashioned is the Dollar Tree Brand of test. It’s called New Choice Ovulation Predictor test. And best of all, they are only ONE DOLLAR! This is in comparison to kits that generally cost anywhere between $8 to $20. These higher prices kits usually have 8 tests in them though, for a longer testing span. The genuine thing about the dollar tree ones, are you can just buy a few if that’s all you need. They also have pregnancy tests!

Trying to have a baby can be a rewarding, yet trying time. OPKs can help alleviate the stress of “knowing” when to baby dance, causing you to have a better idea of when the best time is! I recommend them. I hope that I’ve helped to explain how they work as well! Good luck to anyone using them!
